As a lice professional I am continuously amazed at the amount of misleading information there is to be found on the internet regarding the subject of lice.
Parents enter my clinic armed with the same questions over and over again because they constantly read conflicting information which inevitably causes undue stress and fear. With so many topics to address in my blog, clearing up myths and opinions versus scientific fact seems like an obvious place to start.

LICE
Although there are many types of lice, the head louse, or Pediculus humanus capitis, is a parasitic insect that can be found on the head. Head lice (the plural form of louse) feed on human blood several times a day and live close to the scalp to maintain their body temperature.
